Regrouting and resealing in Amington, Tamworth. Stained, cracked or mouldy grout raked out and replaced, and silicone joints renewed properly.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is regrouting cheaper than retiling?

Considerably, and it is a day or two rather than a week, so it is the first thing to consider when the tiles themselves are sound.

Why does my grout keep cracking?

Usually movement - a flexing floor, a joint that should be silicone, or tiles laid on an unstable surface. New grout in the same joint will crack again.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes. Going darker is the usual choice in a hard water area because it stays looking clean.

How long before I can use the shower?

24 hours after the silicone goes in.

Will you clean the tiles as well?

They get cleaned down as part of the job, including the limescale the grout was hiding.

Do you work outside Tamworth?

Amington, Glascote, Stonydelph, Bolehall and the rest of Tamworth.

01

Grout raked out, not painted over

Taken back properly so the new grout has depth to hold on to.

02

Mouldy silicone replaced

Cut out, cleaned, dried and renewed - the mould is in the silicone, so cleaning it never lasts.

03

Leaks found while we are in there

A silicone joint that keeps failing is usually telling you something.

04

Colour matched or changed

Keep it as it was, or go darker if the old colour never stayed clean.

05

Sealing where it is needed

Natural stone and some porcelains want sealing. Standard ceramic does not, and we will not sell you it.

06

Movement joints kept flexible

Corners and the wall-to-floor change stay in silicone, which is what they should have been in the first place.

Plenty of tiling that looks finished is only tired. The tiles are sound, the layout is fine, and what is actually wrong is the grout and the silicone - which is a fraction of the cost of retiling and takes a fraction of the time.

Grout goes because it is porous. It picks up soap, shampoo and limescale, and in Amington, where the water is hard, that shows up first as a dull grey line and later as something that will not come clean no matter what is thrown at it. Raking it out and replacing it puts the room back to new in a day or two.

Silicone is a different problem. Black mould in silicone is growing in it, not on it, so cleaning is a short-term answer. It comes out, the joint gets cleaned and dried properly, and fresh silicone goes in - which is also the moment any leak behind it gets found.

Sometimes regrouting is the wrong answer and we will say so: grout cracking in the same line repeatedly is usually movement underneath, and putting new grout in the same joint just buys a few months. Tiles that sound hollow when tapped, grout that keeps cracking in the same line, or a floor that flexes underfoot are worth looking at before they are tiled over.
